Japanese Restaurant Aoyagi

Came here with my family in December. Food was gsstronomical. Try the omasake set You wont regret. Very affordable. Amd you get top class service. On Wednesday, they habe a special performance too. I had a great to a great time there. I want to shout out to the only Taiwanese waitress that served us. She was exceptional. Thank you very much.

## Exceptional Dining Experience at AOYAGI Kumamoto We had a fantastic dinner at AOYAGI! The food was exceptional, with two outstanding options: - *Local Set*: The horse sashashi and sukiyaki were highlights. - *Seasonal Course*: Fresh fish sashimi and delicious Shabu Shabu. The service was top-notch, esp. Hirose san, making for a truly memorable experience. We highly recommend AOYAGI for a delicious and authentic Japanese meal. 5 stars!

Wow, the food at this wonderful is absolutely delicious. We were very keen to try some local Kumamoto produce and this was very special. Upon arrival we were greeted so well, and shown to an area where we chose our own place to sit because it was empty at this time. (It filled up a bit after a while but not too busy). It’s a top quality restaurant, calm and relaxed, superb environment. Our waitress was so polite and attentive too! So, we had.. the Original Kamameshizenn, Aoyagi's Gomoku Kamameshi has 2 small bowls, sashimi, salad, seasonal mini tempura, chawanmushi, soup, pickled vegetables, homemade tyousenname. Kamameshi is flavored rice with ingredients from the mountains and sea cooked in an individual pot using local natural spring water. The recipe for the stockof Kamameshi has never left the premises und been kept a secret since the establishment of the restaurant. Each pot of rice is cooked to order. This fine meal is the signature dish of the Aoyagi restaurant, we loved it. We also had: Hibarizenn, containing Aoyagi's specialty horse sukiyaki. (You can change it to red beef sukiyaki for 500 yen if you wish but we didn’t, and we really enjoyed the horse meat.) It comes with White rice, takana-zuke (pickled mustard), hitoji no guru guru, mustard lotus root, salad, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) A fantastic restaurant very very highly recommend for top-quality set lunches at very reasonable prices, ¥3,300 per person for the meals. Incredible tasting experience! The restaurant is really offering the best of Kumamoto food scene! Horse meat (sashimi and grilled), lotus root with mustard (Karashi) and guruguru speciality! Price is very reasonable and the stuff is nice and friendly :) Kaisei Local menu recommended for a great night out in this beautiful city

As a first-time sampler of horse meat, I was simply blown away. The sashimi was exquisite, but the grilled horsemeat was a revelation. To say it is better than beef, even here in the heart of Wagyu country, is a statement I do not make lightly. It was impeccably tender, deeply flavorful, and seasoned to perfection. This is the definitive Kumamoto experience, delivered by the friendliest, most welcoming team. I was fortunate to secure a walk-in seat at 6 PM on a Sunday, but I would urge any prospective diner to make a booking. This is a destination worth planning for. I will, without question, return.

The best restaurant for trying Kumamoto regional cuisine - love their lunch sets! I had really wanted to try all the local foods like Karashi Renkon (mustard lotus root), horse sashimi & the steamed rice (Kamameshi) using local regional ingredients. Aoyagi delivered one of the best meals I’ve had in Japan on my travels - love how they preserved the authenticity of the ingredients without over seasoning - loved it !

An unforgettable experience! This local restaurant in Kumamoto truly embodies kindness and hospitality. They didn’t have halal meat available that day, but the staff went above and beyond and prepared a special meal just for me. Their extraordinary kindness and the warm welcome I received touched me deeply. The atmosphere is so friendly and family-like — full of laughter and good vibes, even with the language barrier. A beautiful reminder of the generosity and heart of Kumamoto. Highly recommended!
